What IS Awana?
Awana has been variously described as: a
message; a tool; an experience; and a way to
reach around the world. The co-founder of
Awana, Art Rorheim, perhaps best describes it:
"The very heart of Awana is the Word of God. As
young people learn that Jesus Christ died on the
cross for their sins, and arose in victory from the
dead, they believe in Christ as Savior and accept
His wonderful gift of salvation. The Great
Commission is being accomplished in young hearts."
Awana is a Christ centered, Bible based ministry
committed to reaching children and youth with
the gospel of Christ. Weekly programs promote
an atmosphere of fun and excitement as young
people learn at a local church. The acronym
Awana stands for Approved Workmen Are Not
Ashamed. The key verse of Awana is 2 Timothy
2:15: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be shamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth." |
